As a result, both fires can easily be implemented in any home. However, it can be quite difficult to know which model to choose – in this article I will compare the two types of fireplaces, which will ultimately help you, make the best decision.
In order to make it simple I will walk through the pros and cons of both fireplaces.
If you do not already know what an ethanol fireplace is, and how it works, let me give you the just of it. An ethanol fireplace is a product that requires no flue or vent due to the fuel bioethanol. The fireplaces produce a good amount of heat and instantly add a vibrant feeling to almost any room.
- Real and authentic flames
- No dangerous fumes or particles
- Ventless – no soot smoke ash etc.
- Doesn’t require an electric socket
- Produce a good amount of heat
The most important takeaway from the pros of ethanol fireplaces are the real flames as well as the heat.
- Consume a little oxygen
- Cost more to run than electric fires
- Cannot burn without producing heat
The cons pretty much speaks for them selves, ‘unfortunately’ it is not possible to have the flames without any heat. If you do not need any heat, a simple solution could be installing a fan or simply opening a window.
An electric fireplace is known to almost everybody as a fireplace that is simply plugged into an electrical socket. A fan that can be turned on and off produces the heat, and the electric system creates simple flame effect.
- Inexpensive to operate
- Easy to install
- With or without heat – adjustable heat
- Ventless – no smoke soot, ash etc.
- Don’t need a lighter or any fuel
- No real flame – no real danger
The keywords to note from the pros of electric fireplaces relates to safety and ease of use. It is very easy to turn on and as there are no real flames, the risk is at an absolute minimum.
- Require electricity to operate
- Will never give the feeling of a real flame
Unfortunately, the biggest con is the lack of real flames. Many clients ultimately discard the electric fireplace due to the “fake” feeling the flames give. The best advice is to experience a real electric fireplace before purchasing one in order to ensure that you will enjoy the flame effects.
I’ve always been a big supporter of ethanol fireplaces – if not, I wouldn’t sell them. That being said, I might be a bit biased when it comes to assist you making the final decision – my hope is that this article has given you the information to decide for yourself. However, I will still highlight the key difference.
You should choose an electric fireplace if you don’t really care much for real flames and have a low budget. Electric fires are usually a lot cheaper than quality (safe) ethanol fireplaces. To me, they serve as the perfect substitute for fireplace dvds.
An ethanol fireplace on the other hand, is very suitable if you want some heat and real live flames. Personally I find that electric fireplaces are simply too fake – with ethanol you will get the real thing.
